      Software Engineer Interview

      19 Jul 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at OJO Labs (Austin, TX) in Jun 2019

      Interview

Their internal recruiter contacted me, and I responded after reading their positive reviews here. The recruiter did a fairly good job selling the company, and setup a 1-hour interview at 7am with their CTO "Q^2". The CTO seemed nice, but she asked a very long list of behavioral questions (no technical), most of which were awkward, didn't apply to me, or rarely happen in the workplace. If I was actively seeking a job, I would have probably followed-up. Since I'm only casually looking, the experience just felt like an awkward way to start an employment relationship, and I didn't have any compelling reasons to continue the process.

      Question 1

Most of the questions were about failure, conflict with coworkers, and areas of recent improvement.

Thank you for your feedback. We realize that our process may be a little different than other companies. Most of our first level interview meetings are to determine culture fit and alignment with our values. To us, this is absolutely the driving factor on if a candidate will be successful within our organization. We firmly believe that these key qualities are what makes each of our team members special and makes OJO such a great place to work. In the time since your interview, we have made a point to ensure clearer candidate communication around our process, so each person knows what to expect. We will continue to evaluate the candidate experience and appreciate your feedback!
