Nexcess Senior Software Engineer interview questions

The interview process was very relaxed and pleasant, and it suggested that Nexcess are interested in building a "world class software developer team". It involved the following stages - initial chat with team lead and senior software engineer (~1 hour) - list of questions to be answered over the weekend - additional chat with team lead and senior software engineer as well as three more engineers (~1 hour) - automated background check An offer was made, and I suggested to raise the suggested hourly rate by 6.67%. Then I was told that a mistake had been made with the hourly rate, and the offer was amended, now offering 50% of the initially suggested hourly rate. It was stated that there is no room for negotiation. I politely pointed out that it will be impossible to build a team of world class software developers with such a low offer, and declined.
