      Online English Teacher Interview

      20 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manila, Manila
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Native Camp (Manila, Manila) in Jul 2020

      Interview

After I passed the English proficiency test, I went for the system check. There were 2 schedules - 9:00-11:00 AM and 5:00-7:00 PM. It took 2 days to get in. After I passed the system check, I went for the Demo Lesson (the same schedule - 9:00-11:00 AM and 5:00-7:00 PM). It took me 3 days for this and I had a bad experience. On the 2nd day of waiting for the Demo Lesson (9:00-11:00 AM), the male Admin had connected around 11:45 AM. He had an issue with my audio - he said he could not hear me. Though I have checked everything, even on Skype, everything was fine. I even called my friends to check and we had trouble shooting for my audio before I tried again in the afternoon schedule (5:00-7:00 PM). A female Admin connected around 8:45 PM (already passed the schedule ~ as always) and she said that we should do it fast because it's already late. She sounded tired and wanted to finish everything already. Then she asked me to retake the demo instantly and disconnected. I tried again on the 3rd day, so I waited for the Demo Lesson (9:00-11:00 AM), the same female Admin has connected around 11:50 AM. And when I was in the middle of the Demo, she disconnected and I tried to reconnect but I couldn't. I tried to wait for the admin until 12:30 PM but I decided to give up. Because of my fighting spirit, I tried again in the afternoon schedule (5:00-7:00 PM), the male Admin was the one who connected at around 8:40 PM, it was weird because he still couldn't hear me. He said that there was something wrong with my audio. I just find it bizarre that if the male Admin was the one doing or has connected in the Demo Lesson, he couldn't hear me and that I had a audio problem - happened twice and different days. To think that before doing the Demo Lesson procedure, I had to go through a system check. I had to check if I was using the correct browser, if I could see my image on the camera, if the volume meter was working everytime I speak, and if I could hear the audio of the video they had provided. And, if the female Admin was the one doing or has connected in the Demo Lesson, she just disconnects in the middle of the class ~ this also happened twice and different days. I just find it so odd. I hope not everyone will experience this and I hope this was just a big unlucky circumstance.

Dear candidate, Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify some steps of our application process. After you start the process and go through the English Proficiency Test, our admin staff need to check your technical conditions on the System Check part. If everything is OK, you can continue to the Demo Lesson part. That is why we think that you missunderstood our admin while explaining. If in any case your technical conditions are not appropriate during the Demo Lesson, you need to fix that and take the Demo Lesson again when you set up everything to be fine for continuing the application process. That is why you could not go through if your audio was not good. Regarding the schedule, our admin wanted to take the Demo Lesson with you although it was almost end of the slot to take this step, so please take this into consideration before making up some reasons how you felt about our admins. About the disconnection part it's not up to our admins, maybe it was up to your Internet connection, so we are not sure on which side we had a disconnection without the prove. Please understand that we keep the quality of our lessons on the high level and our teachers need to have all technical conditions and teaching skills in order to be the part of Native Camp. We appreciate your feedback and we hope that we could answer your doubts. We wish you all the best! Best regards, Native Camp Team

      Interview

The process presented some challenges, notably the extended wait time for administrative assistance, which lasted over six hours. Additionally, in the event of technical issues, it appears that responsibility may be attributed to the user.
