      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at NYC Surgical (New York, NY)

      Interview

They had an advertised RN position online for their NYC office, so I applied for it. The interview was quick. I believe they scheduled 2 other interviewees as well on the same day, around the same time. So they were kinda running behind on schedule. If you decide to interview here (go in maybe 30min earlier than scheduled time as other interviewees for the same post you applied to will be getting interviewed as well). I thought it was a total waste of my time had I known I would have focused on the other places I applied to. No need to waste your time dealing with that much competition over one nursing position. You might as well just apply to a hospital. So be aware of that if you so need to apply for a RN job at NYC surgical associates. During the interview, they had this young girl, the admin I believe, interview me. Not a nurse manager. So the questions were sort of generic & I didn't feel like I was getting my followup questions answered per se. Also on their application form. They still have a section asking for "your previous salary & current salary." I'm not certain if they are aware, but this has been changed in NYC laws & companies are NOT required to ask for your salary. All other places I applied to do not ask this anymore. Get up to speed with NYC laws, unless you're looking to low-ball, pay, or dismiss people based on their previous or current salaries. Interesting when I saw this, I also had a follow up question and asked what they salary range would be, and she wasn't clear on that. Only that there's a very low wage you make during the preliminary orientation period, $500 a week, going Monday through Friday 8hrs days. & then she asked if I was ok with that. Of course I said yes, but inside I thought "no, that doesn't make sense." Also, I got the vibe that this place is very superficial & they (lowkey) hire based off of that. By a superficial vibe I mean, that typical Jersey Shore or Vanderpump rules, look and vibe but for nurses or techs etc...if you are that nurse, then this might be the place for you. I otherwise value places that are not jershey shorish and reputed based off of diversity that celebrates & embraces differences, strength, and non-superficial work colleagues & environment. Anyway, at the end, I was informed they'll call in 'about' two weeks time yada yada yada I parked on 5th Street, $60 later, I felt like I wasted my time coming for the interview & should have used that time preparing for another interview. I knew it would not be the place (for me) to work. I'm writing so others can have some insight on what they are walking into prior to interviewing with NYC surgical associates.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself? Why nursing? Why NYC surgical associates? What do you know about us? Do you have experience with placing IVs? When would you like to start?
