      VP Product Management Interview

      12 Nov 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Mystery.org in Aug 2019

      Interview

1 follow-up email stating why you are interested in Mystery Science. 1 Phone screen by recruiter/staffing agency. 1 1:1 face to face interview with CEO. Background screen done by the Recruiter and some additional background screening done by the CEO, but mostly the CEO will be asking for behavioral leadership and motivation for why Mystery Science. As a first outside PM hire, the process usually revolves around personality fit. The CEO unusually asks a lot of questions around what you're seeking in your next role which makes sense as he has worked their for a long time and wants to pass his "baby" to you. Based on early conversations you can expect to be doing more Program Management as he will be relieving himself from the tactical activities to focus on Strategic thinking. Despite being a VP of Product, the trust might have to be earned to truly own the product completely. Moreover, the fit will need to be assessed as the CEO has an unusual style that also leans towards highlighting key metrics that don't reflect customer end-value. He also has overplayed his time at Facebook when in fact it was less than 2 years, so be prepared to market yourself well and align with his personal flair.
