      Software Developer Interview

      14 Jun 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Reading, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Microsoft (Reading, England) in Apr 2021

      Interview

MS HR representative reached out through LinkedIn and suggested to apply one of their MS open role. Strangely, when I applied it was showing the final date of application but HR came back and said that they have re-posted the role to attract more candidates. After 3 weeks, HR approached that hiring manager liked my CV and want to invite for next round of interview. First round was technical interview/coding continued around 1,5 hours and then 30 minutes gap then second round of interview for design for 1.5 hours on same day. Overall was OK, but initially set 1 hour but keep asking from me can we extend 30minutes, we want to ask more questions etc. which I found quite unprofessional. Also, conducting 2 interviews at same day, exhausting process to be honest. After interviews, HR called and told me that the interview outcome will be declared after 2 weeks, do you have anything planned for so on so dates (2 dates mentioned) if you are successful. You basically have to fit in their schedule one of those 2 days, putting everything aside to do 2 interviews on same day with different interviewers. Selected for third round, but it was already too late that all other interviews were on final stages, completed etc. Even though, the processes were started weeks after MS application. Couple of strange things were noted during/after interview process: HR were keep asking from me which company offer I have got whether it is as big as MS. When I said, not to disclose to her, she mentioned that she can check my status in LinkedIn which I find it quite evil mindset. Also, tech design interviewers were not knowledgeable enough about the answers to the questions. Overall a bit long process took 2+ months stage 1, stage 2 to complete and a lot of red flags in very early stage, as an experienced professional, personally I would be hesitant to work as such culture. I have interviewed many other big techies but never experienced such a bureaucratic process. Hopefully, this will help for others who is getting interviewed or considering offer. Thank you.
