      Senior Program Manager Interview

      15 Aug 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Microsoft (Seattle, WA) in May 2019

      Interview

I applied online through Microsoft's careers and the recruiter reached out to me in 1 week. I have applied to few other openings before but never heard from them. Its better to get a referral to increase the chance of getting the interview. 45 mins Initial phone screen with the recruiter - checking my background and understanding the interest and relevancy to the role, salary expectations, other offers at hand. Since I already had an offer at hand, and going to two other onsites the same week the recruiter said she will expedite the process at Microsoft. The same week 30 minutes phone call with the hiring manager was scheduled. During this time hiring manager asked me details about the programs I worked on, double clicking on KPIs and asking more questions on how I measured those. Also asked questions about the technical skills I highlighted on my resume (kubernetes, Docker, AWS). I heard after 2 days about the onsite and it was scheduled the following week. During Onsite I had 6 rounds and I only knew about the first person I will meet with, even that kept changing until the last minute. The interview started with meeting a principal PM who digged into my PM skills (Collaboration, Prioritization, Resolving conflicts etc), then next round was with another PM and it was more of a culture fit round Why microsoft, why that role, what innovations I have done, my motivations, best job I had. After this there was few minutes break and then I met with a Dev manger and after some initial background and requirements questions I was asked feature design question to increase user base for Bing Search. After this I met with a senior dev who went straight into feature design and data modeling. It was a full white board round and I did get stuck towards the end but I openly asked the interviewer to help me which he did and I was able to pick up and continue with the exercise. Then I met with the hiring manager who again was diving deeper into my background and the kinds of programs I managed. The last was the AsApp interview with a senior dev manager who started with team collaboration questions and then did another feature exercise session on Cortana. Overall it was a great experience and my advice for anyone going to interview at Microsoft would be to enjoy the interview process and be honest/real.

      Interview

I first had a discussion with the hiring manager and then 3 short interviews with 3 different people that'd I'd be likely working with regularly. The interviews were focused on cultural attributes -- growth mindset, customer obsesses, diverse and inclusive, and finally One Microsoft.

      Interview

The Interview process was intense. I interview for the Bing Ads team and the questions were quite technical regarding experimentation and A/B testing. Focused on the publisher prespective and how the experimentation platform was built. Not much behaviourial questions were asked.
