I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mercado Global (New York, NY) in Sept 2021
Interview
I served as reference for a young woman interviewing for a fundraising position. She told me of the lengthy interview process and a few red flags, but that it was something she was interested in pursuing. Red flags involved Mercado folks being late for interviews, changing the job title/offer, and various indices of not exactly having their stuff together. Upon being offered the position, she initiated negotiations, which is standard for any job offer. I was alarmed at how low the pay and benefits were. The position was stationed outside of the US and that was their justification for the extremely low salary (I considered it low even for the area). After she sent in her negotiation request, they responded by revoking the job offer and reposting the position under yet a new title. The position has been open for quite a while. The woman with whom I spoke for the reference seemed young and inexperienced. I was rather shocked at the mess the entire process was and would caution anyone--especially a woman--who applies with this company. Their lack of professionalism is annoying during the interview process, but that kind of behavior if you've decided to move out of country for a position could end up putting you in a precarious situation. These folks appear to need a bit of mentoring on how to manage the hiring process, adequately support staff, and conduct themselves with external entities. Tl;dr: Be careful. These folks appear to be a mess.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I served as a reference. The interviewer asked how she could best support the candidate. I do not think the interviewer had much management experience. Virtually no questions were asked about the candidate.
I was interviewed by another intern currently working for them, and the whole process lasted for about fifteen minutes. I was asked for some behavior questions and was informed that my information would be shared to supervisors.
I applied online. I interviewed at Mercado Global (New York, NY) in Jul 2017
Interview
The interview process is very lengthy. They gave me three hour long Skype interviews. The pay for their positions is the local wage in Guatemala. You will also need to show lots of examples to prove your experience.
