      Finance Manager Interview

      3 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Camden Town, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Lyle & Scott (Camden Town, England) in Sept 2024

      Interview

I completed both first and final stage of the interview and was waiting for an offer to be given as I was told by the agency that I was the only candidate who made it to the offer stage. The Finance Director and the Head of Finance were ready to give me an offer for the Finance Manager position, however the CEO was extremely difficult during the final stage of the interview (He advised the decision was down to the Finance Director and Head of Finance), However, in the end he was the one who refused to pay an average salary in the industry for a Finance Manager role! The agency and myself had to chase for a minimum of 2 weeks til they received a response of which the CEO decided to hire a Finance Manager role in Scotland (because wages are lower out there) why do that when the finance team are actually located here in London (Thats a great way to support the team right? where the manager is elsewhere and cannot come into the office 4 days a week like the rest of the team?). All the CEO cares about is cheap labour and has a big ego because of how he made it to the position he is in. Just because he made it to the position he is in, doesn't mean he should treat people like their not human and don't have feelings! I found him very inappropriate in the final stage interview where he made comments such as "I don't think your a strong person", "I don't think you can do the job" and "Wow what a big engagement ring you have on your hand" (He was testing my patience unnecessarily rather than actually asking me questions that relate to the job at hand). The case study I have to complete also had nothing to do with testing my skills for the role I applied for! Therefore I wasted my time where I couldn't self myself properly as the entire final stage interview was absolutely nonsense. I would recommend individuals stay away from working here unless you are prepared to be interrogated in the recruitment process by the CEO for a low wage.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Case Study was on whether a dairy company should sell or invest in components of their business. (Absolutely nothing to do with decisions a Finance Manager would make, more for a CEO role, therefore the most pointless thing to complete)
