      Business Intelligence VBA Developer Interview

      21 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Lidl (London, England) in May 2022

      Interview

      1. First stage phone interview with in-house recruiter, talking about background and experience, motives. Basic technical questions. 2. Online Test, 1 hour timed problem solving with VBA 3. Final Face to Face interview with hiring managers, going into detail about motives, working style, experience. More to get a sense of your character face to face. Overall a fair and balanced interview process. I received an offer of £38k despite the job being advertised at £47.3k-59.8k. At the time I was already earning around £51k, so naturally the job seemed attractive however this offer was not. I returned with a counter offer and samples of my code which were significantly more advanced than what was required in the test they gave me. I then heard nothing for two weeks. Then their in-house recruiter phoned me to say they had given the job to someone who had applied internally. This was quite frustrating because it took so long and at the end of it all it almost felt as though they never had any intention of paying within the boundaries they had advertised the job at.
