I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at KNIME (Berlin) in Jan 2020
Interview
Had a 1-1 call with a guy from Sales Management, he was impressed with my CV and really excited to bring me in and meet the team. He emphasized the importance of the company culture and how the applicant had to the right fit.
I went in, met the whole team... I wore a suit which was probably a bit of a stupid move in the informal Berlin startup scene. I also had a minor cold that day so kept on sniffling. It seemed to give a nervous vibe to the company members which wasnt ideal.
I was still confident I stood a strong chance, especially after a great screening call with one of the guys on the U.S. team a couple days later.
Ultimately it was not to be, I got a phone call from the original interviewer saying he couldnt offer me the job as the overall consensus from the employees who I met that day weren't sure if I was the right fit. He then asked me if I was nervous during the interview.
On the one hand for a sales/business development role its important for applicants to exude confidence and ease, which probably wasn't as present as they would have hoped; on the other hand I feel I gave a good impression overall and there could have been a bit more openness/empathy with someone who has just entered a new environment.
Also the follow up screening call with the U.S. team member went very well and had great chemistry, anI believed at the time that was the final opinion needed, so it was a bit of a damper at the time to get the rejection call.
