      Project Manager Interview

      14 Oct 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Portland, OR
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Jive Software (Portland, OR) in Sept 2014

      Interview

I was extremely impressed with the hiring process. Throughout the process everyone at Jive replied almost instantly to my email and voice mail inquiries. Salary expectations were discussed on the very first phone call with the internal recruiter which is a refreshing change. Second call with the hiring manager was only scheduled for 30 minutes but she took the time to speak with me for over an hour. Third step was a 5.5 hour round-robin-style interview of seven total colleagues from various teams. This step was exhausting but I very much enjoyed meeting the various people and their perspectives (added bonus, I felt like I had connections with them on my first day). Final interview was 30 scheduled for minutes (went to 45) with the senior manager of the team which turned out to be more difficult but I still enjoyed the experience. All along the way the recruiter was providing status updates and I felt informed. The hiring manager personally called me with the great news my offer letter was soon to be in my inbox!

      Product Manager Interview

      23 Mar 2015
      Anonymous employee

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Jive Software (Palo Alto, CA) in Feb 2015

      Interview

They accommodated my schedule and broke the interview into 3 meetings, one on site, one remote, and another one on site. Started with a phone interview with the hiring manager. Very relaxed informational almost to get high level fit to the role. The on site included again the hiring manager, and an engineering manager. Again, the Product Management interview was mostly talking about my background, technologies and products I worked with, followed by overview of the role at Jive. The Engineering manager was a great opportunity to meet a member of the technical team, and do a quick case study around a technical problem. This was no different than many discussions Product Managers have day to day with their engineering counter parts. You are not asked to program or are put on the spot, it is more of a collaborative discussion. After my first on site, they called and said they want me to meet more members of the team, which included 2 other leaders in the Product Management team. The discussion was again very casual, trying to assess cultural fit as well as your past accomplishments. No tricky questions, nothing you need to prepare for, just be yourself. The final meeting was with the CPO, this was by far the best meeting in terms of getting me to know that if I get an offer, I will take it. The culture and people are just great, which is the case in many companies, but sometimes you start loosing that connection the higher you go in the org chart. In this case, I got a great impression that the management team is open, communicative and part of the team.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Jive Software (Portland, OR) in Jun 2014

      Interview

I have been interested in Jive for 4 years since I moved to the Portland area. I was lucky to have been sought out by one of Jive's internal recruiters. I received an email on my LinkedIN account and immediately followed up. I am grateful I did. I was not actively looking so I did need to reboot my resume. As luck would have it, it was a holiday weekend at the time so I had ample time to retool. Once I did I sent it back to Jive and they moved quickly to set up a phone interview. I completed the phone interview and they quickly scheduled a face to face discussion in their Portland office. I met with 4 senior people within the department I would be working in. The meetings were well structured, professional but they felt welcoming and genuinely interested in who I am and how I may fit into the Jive Community. After the face to face discussions were complete (about 3 hours) I had one more phone review with a C level executive that oversees the department that I would be working in. This specific executive was very friendly and asked great questions that were thought provoking and allowed me to get a feel for how he envisions his division operating. Overall it was a well run and structured process with solid communication and expectation of next steps. I was provided direct access to my recruiter through the whole process and any questions that arose Jive was able to address in a very expeditious manner.
