I have never written a review on Glassdoor but I feel that my negative experience with Jolt has to be shared in order to help others. This position is not for someone with a college degree, and the job post is completely misleading. I have had numerous interviews and previous internship positions, but this was my worst experience by far.
I applied for a Communications and PR intern position through ZipRecruiter. The responsibilities listed on the job post were “Executing marketing strategies, Coordinating private promotional and corporate events on behalf of clients, implementing creative marketing campaigns, Providing marketing analytics to supervisors, etc”. My first interview with Joshua was very positive, but I was still unclear as to what my role would be. Within 4 hours of my interview, I was called back for a 2nd interview. I was informed that it would be a full day assessment with no additional details as to what I would be doing.
Beginning the 2nd interview at 10 am, I was paired with another member of the team who had been working there for 6 weeks. At this point, I was told that I would be taken to their “marketing event at Navy Pier”. After spending an hour on the train and bus, I was brought to a Walgreens at the intersection of McClurg and E. Illinois Street. I was instructed to stand on the side and take notes on how the employees called out to every single person that walked by and invited them to learn more about the Special Olympics. This was NOT a “marketing event on navy pier”, instead it was street marketing on an intersection in Chicago. Since I wasn’t made aware of this, I didn’t come prepared with a heavy jacket so I was freezing in 40 degree weather for 2 hours. The employee even tried to tell people passing by that I was a competing in the Special Olympics, which is completely false and was uncomfortable for me. I felt completely blindsided, as this was not a “Public Relations internship” at all. This is not a position for someone with a college degree, and requires standing on the street for hours with an IPad and a sign while people show no interest. I left the area and never contacted the company again.
