I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JJ Bean (Vancouver, BC) in Apr 2022
Interview
Short informal interview about your people skills and knowledge of the company. No previous barista experience needed; they care more about your personality and willingness to learn. Having weekend availability was an asset.
Very straightforward about prior experience -- I didn't have prior specialty coffee knowledge but I showed excitement about learning about it which helped. I think they mostly want to test your customer service skills since they will train you according to their levels system anyways, regardless of your experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How do you stay organized in a fast paced environment? How do you deal with difficult customers?
I was interviewed technically 3 people. The manager, the supervisor and another supervisor in training. It was really great interview. I was asked all the usual questions but I was asked more on my interests.
