I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at J D Wetherspoon (Nottingham, England) in Oct 2015
Interview
I filled in the online application form which was quite lengthy, then about two days later I received a phone call asking if I would come in for an interview in a few days.
When I arrived for the interview I went up to the bar and they said the manager would be here in a minute so I had to awkwardly stand at the bar for about 10 minutes.
When she finally came she briefly apologised then led me to a table at the back of the pub.
She asked some basic questions, it was quite boring as she was just reading off a sheet. I read that on other reviews that you have to smile at least three times to get the job, which was impossible as she spent the whole time writing down what I had said and only looked at me about twice! She said she usually has a writer but no one was available to do it. A lack of eye contact on her behalf made it very difficult to fully engage in the interview.
She asked about the hours I could work and if I'd be available to work until close during the week and I couldn't as I am at uni so I don't really want to be getting home at 2am when I have to be up at 7 the next day, which I had already specified in the online application.
When I left I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get the job and I wouldn't have wanted to work with boring and patronising people like her!
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at J D Wetherspoon (Sheffield, England)
Interview
I submitted a CV and then I was shortly asked to come in for an interview to discuss my experience and skills. It was done in the Pub with two members of staff, who did make me feel comfortable, however I had to wait 30 minutes as they were behind schedule
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What do you expect to be doing in this role and what makes this pub stand out compared to others

Interview
We sat down in the seating area of the pub and I answered questions the interviewer asked and filled in on a sheet. It was quite quick and friendly. I was offered the job via phone call a couple hours later.

Interview
It was a fairly relaxed meeting, held in the location I had applied for with the general manager who asked pretty standard questions about previous experience and availability to work.
