I was contacted by a recruiter who had me take an online assessment in which I was in top 95 percentile. He did tell me they use outdated technology. I still went ahead and later received a codility test from them. On this also I performed very well. Next week I received an email that they are very interested in pursuing further and a phone interview followed which was pretty basic asking me to write a class structure, then two sql queries. After this next day, I heard back from the HR that they wanted to pursue further.
At this point things went awry. They had a link for online calendar in which the only days that showed up were Tuesday - Friday and I chose a Wednesday and I was scheduled for two interview for half an hour each. Now I can complain about other things about this interview like which company on earth invites candidates after 5:30 PM for a interview? But anyway, I didn't care much about that. Now, on Monday I received a call from the first interviewer around 6:00 PM asking me why I didn't show up for the interview. I politely told her my interview is scheduled for Wednesday and not today. It wasn't my fault so why should I even apologize. So on Wednesday when I actually showed on my scheduled time, this same lady refused to even meet me telling the HR she was busy. I was made to wait. After the long wait, instead of the original interviewer, someone else from the team showed up. He was nice but didn't seem like interested in hiring me. He was basically trying to discourage me. Again he asked me a simple SQL question. And when I was done he told me to leave. I asked that I had another interview with the VP and he told me even the VP was gone and there was no one else I need to meet with. Okay, fine he decided not to hire me, but which company on earth will behave like this, when you call someone for an interview you should have basic courtesy to meet and greet them at least. And this lady who called me on Monday, she couldn't even come and say hello? Was she punishing me for something which was not my mistake, or the HR's mistake in giving her the wrong dates, couldn't she even clarify this with the HR why the dates were setup wrong or if it was her fault, then it doesn't make sense the way she gave me a cold shoulder treatment. Very unprofessional. And surprised that even the VP should behave like this, not show up for the interview when it was scheduled, or may be his/her calendar was messed up too!
But I must say the HR person was really nice but I can see how the work culture is in this company, even when I left around 6:30 PM, people were sitting there and looking at their screens and at that point I myself decided I don't want this job, and later next day heard back from them that didn't want to pursue further. Happy to not be part of such a company which treats people so meanly!
