Yikes! I should have trusted my gut when I noticed this company’s values are plagiarized straight from Amazon’s leadership principles. Some literally word for word and there are many ex Amazonians working here which makes it even worse. Not sure how they think that is acceptable or that no one would notice!
That was a huge red flag but I went ahead with the initial interview call. Worst introductory phone call I have ever experienced and I have interviewed and worked everywhere from FAANG to startup. I still can’t believe how rude and insulting she was. She complained how tired she was, how she isn’t taking any time off for the holidays, etc. She said the EA isn’t the most critical role in the company but it’s kind of important. Who says that about any role? It also wasn’t confirmed which executive this person would be supporting. That’s pretty crucial to know in a job search, right?
This is the first person interviewing candidates and she was a complete mess, rude and did not sell the company or role one bit. She and several others have worked with the CEO and other employees before, hopping around together from Yahoo, Amazon, etc. so I picked up on the clicky sorority/fraternity vibe.
I was asked to take the CCAT cognitive and personality SAT proctored format tests but my gut was telling me to run from this messy situation and pass. Any company that tests to weed out candidates does not have the type of culture I want to work at. The HR department needs some serious improvement starting with the initial phone interview and the plagiarized values taken straight from Amazon.
