I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ignite Insurance Systems (London, England) in Apr 2023
Interview
I was referred through a recruiter and, to be fair, they moved pretty quickly in having an initial screening call and straight into a technical interview a few days later. The technical interview was fine and I received good feedback, but then for some reason the company turned around and exit the process - citing not wanting to pay the amount I’d suggested I was looking for. No conversations, no negotiations, nothing. Very strange behaviour

Question 1
Talk me through your relevant experience from the last couple of years
Hi, thanks for applying to work at Ignite. We have had a number of very strong candidates in this latest recruitment round so I'm sorry that you missed out on this occasion, and also if you feel we could have been more personal in giving feedback. We'll certainly take that into account in future. All the best with your job search.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ignite Insurance Systems (Manchester, England) in Jul 2019
Interview
I was referred through a recruiter, there was no strict job title provided nor a full job description available.
I had a telephone interview, followed by a face-to-face in which I discussed with a consultant where my strengths and weaknesses lie.
I then had a second face-to-face interview with the technical director, as he was on leave for the first interview.
After this, it was requested that I rate myself on a scale of 1-10 for about 20 different technical abilities. - The problem was that the company did not know what they really wanted before they started the hiring process, so (and I was told this over the phone) they ended up with a strange mix of candidates who all had quite drastically different skills.
Whilst the lack of preparation on the company's part as far as knowing what role they were actually filling sounds bad, I think it was an honest mistake and they were just hasty to comply with requests of staff. Everyone I met was perfectly lovely and the company itself seemed like it would have been a great place to work.

A4 page of technologies handed over - Are there any of these you'd feel you'd struggle with?
Hi,
Many thanks for leaving this review. It was a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for your time and efforts in the interview process. You're quite right that the role we realised we required as time went by changed substantially from what we set out looking for, and we definitely took the time of a few people who we could have realised earlier didn't have the right experience for us. Please do give me a call if you'd like to talk it over. You came across very well at interview and I wish you all the best. Do keep in touch.
Kind Regards
Toby MacLachlan, MD
