1 recruiter screening/meeting, 1 phone tech screen, 1 day+ for onsite interviews. The entire process was absolutely wonderful - friendly people, great company vision, and a smart plan to move forward. (It may also be helpful to note that I had been a satisfied Homejoy customer for a long while before applying, so I already had a pretty positive outlook for the company!)
I had a personal referral and e-mail introduction to the recruiter. Within an hour of the introduction letter, we had made an appointment to meet the next day. The recruiter was very friendly and extraordinarily helpful - we had a candid discussion about Homejoy's vision, plans for the future, as well as workplace culture and values. She was very accommodating of my limited timeline and managed to get me set up for a technical phone screen that evening and (after the phone screen) onsite interviews for the next day.
The phone screen was fairly typical, with questions discussing technical background, basic data structures/algorithms knowledge, and one coding question in a shared text editor.
The onsite interviews included one-on-one meetings with 4 engineers and lunch, which also afforded me plenty of opportunity to interact with other members of the company. I was really impressed that not only had Homejoy assembled a team of very smart and incredibly friendly engineers, but there didn't seem to be any segregation of members from various departments -- everyone in the company seems to get along very well and a sense of collaboration is apparent. It makes for a rather harmonious environment and really reinforces the fact that everyone is on the same team.
Since my interviews had been scheduled at the last minute, I was unable to get in to meet the CEO that day, but they made special arrangements for me to meet her the next day. I was grateful they were able to squeeze me in on such short notice and enjoyed the opportunity to talk one-on-one about the company vision.
I received an offer the next day and scheduled an opportunity to talk to the engineering team lead again to clarify any questions about the offer as well as any lingering questions I had regarding work at Homejoy, in general.
I cannot stress enough how impressed I was with the entire interview process. Everyone at Homejoy is very open, helpful, and motivated to make a positive difference in the world. I was impressed with the engineers on both personal and professional levels. Homejoy is so much more than a cleaning company; they are doing some awesome work and have a fantastic team in place to do it!
