To be quite honest, I can't even remember applying to Holo because it took so long for them to write me back, so it must have been more than a month or two. (I started my job search in early December 2019.) When I did finally get asked to start the interview process in late January 2020, it wasn't even for the position to which I would have applied. Even more bizarrely, the person who contacted me didn't seem to have read my resume at all. She opened by asking me questions about what technologies I was familiar with, which, y'know, are already listed on my resume? I also didn't like the way the she spoke to me. Her emails were curt, demanding, and had an air of condescension in them, as though she felt I should be grateful just to get an email from the company after so long. She also seemed weirdly defensive about some very basic questions. When I asked for an overview of what the interview process was like, she went off for like a paragraph and a half about "recent internal company changes" which I never asked about. Then it occurred to me to look this company up online and, no surprise, I see announcements from them about recent layoffs and also found a number of negative reviews and comments on Reddit and here on Glassdoor. So I decided to bail on them (especially since I'm now already four weeks into the interview process for a much more promising opportunity), and figured I'd write up this experience to help other jobseekers out.
