I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab (Austin, TX) in Sept 2019
Interview
There are consecutive steps in the interview process and eligibility to proceed to the next step depends on successfully completing/passing each step. The steps in my interview process were:
- Completing a written assessment/questionnaire
- Screening interview with recruiter
- Interview with hiring manager
- Deep dive interview with a peer-level employee
- Interview with manager of a related team
- Interview with VP of Product

Question 1
Describe something that you are trying to improve on professionally.
Very straight-forward, behavioral, case study, P2P. They definitely care about star format and want you to speak to their company culture. 5 potential interviews is a little much though, I feel it was a bit repetitive.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at GitLab (Jakarta) in Feb 2024
Interview
The interview is done remotely. The first interview is done with the HR team, and there may be 3 interview rounds. I am doing the interview very well but not sure why it was rejected. Is it because I am a remote worker? I don't know

Question 1
Where will you do the work? Where is the main location do you prefer?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab (Copenhagen, Capital Region) in Dec 2022
Interview
Multiple interviews: TA, hiring manager, workshop + async exercise, 360 with the team, skip level. Good experience overall, good communication. They however went silent when the hiring freeze kicked in early 2023. I would have appreciated more transparency around the hiring situation as I waited for over a month for an offer. They even reached out to my references knowing that the position might get closed - not the best experience. I know the tech winter hit hard but please don’t post and interview for positions if your budget is not settled.
