I went through 3 rounds of interviews. First was a pair programming interview where I added a new feature to an existing project I already had. That went well, I just decided on a feature, worked though the programming off it, and answered some questions about my decision making.
Second interview was a coding challenge interview. It was pretty simple, and you get to select which question you work on ahead of the interview.. I pretty easily answered the question, and did very well in this interview.
After this I was told I would interview with the actual client that I would be working for. The apprenticeship is managed by Gaslight, but you don’t work for them directly, you work for a 3rd party client that is looking to hire apprentices. This culture fit interview with a panel of 3 people was your standard behavioral style interview. They told me about their company, asked me questions about my experience, and gave me a chance to ask them questions. It felt like it went ok, but I did get the feeling like the interviewers were just going through the motions a little. That’s not really on Gaslight though.
At this point I thought that I was going to get an offer, but I had to just wait on the official word from Gaslight. That word still to this day has never come. I got 1 update email from Gaslight a week after this final interview, and they said they would have a decision by the end of the following week.
It’s been weeks since that decision was supposed to be made and I’ve been given no update. I have emailed several times to Gaslight asking for any update, even if it’s just to say that the client decided to choose someone else. I feel like if you spend that much time interviewing for a job the least you could get is an email letting you know they decided to go with someone else.
I think the whole apprenticeship concept is great, and the interview process was actually great overall. However, getting ghosted after all that time invested is just crazy, and it really ruined my whole opinion on the interview process.
