      Editor Interview

      3 Dec 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner in Oct 2018

      Interview

Received response (email) to schedule a skills assessment roughly 23 days following online application. A phone interview was conducted the following week with HR recruiter. A video (webcam) interview was conducted the week thereafter with department manager and director. Apart from the initially lag from HR to conduct a skills assessment and phone interview, the process was extraordinarily fast and easy. Gartner is a large company with multiple divisions at multiple locations, so perhaps the added time is to be expected. The skills assessment was timed (~30 mins.), but the timing is on the honor system, which is extraordinarily tricky. The recruiter only noted the number of sections, not the number of questions, which is also tricky. Not a difficult test, but it's not for the faint of heart. The interviews were very friendly. The interviews, however, were very pointed. The screen interview (phone) took roughly 25 minutes; they know precisely what they want, but they'll be honest about what the expectations are for that particular role/duty. The manager/director interview took roughly 1 hour; a mix of background experience questions and several of the "behavioral" questions that are more common nowadays. If you have experience, and you've accomplished a fair amount in your time, then you shouldn't have any problems at all. Listen to interview coaches, if you have them, and have your examples at the front of your mind. Always. They'll notice right away if you aren't prepared.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Gartner

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. The role looked like a good fit and the initial video call went well. I was supposed to do an editing test the following Wednesday, and I'd receive the info about the test on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, I hadn't received anything, so I checked in about the test -- no response. The time for the actual test came and went. I heard nothing back from the recruiter. They never followed up to explain what happened. Not wanting to engage with a company with this many red flags so early in the process, I did not email them again either.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

In the initial recruiting interview, we went over typical broad topics like my prior experience and skills.

      Interview

Took a test and had a few interviews with other editors and TMs. Included a background check. Questions included a lot of scenarios, so coming with previous examples and experiences is important.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner in Jul 2024

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me. Then they gave me an editing test which was quite hard, but I must have passed it since I got the interview. It was with 2 senior editors or managing editors. Most of the questions had to do with editing. I thought it went well but I didn't get an offer. At least I got the rejection within a week of the interview and didn't get ghosted.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What's the difference between proofreading and editing? What would you do if a writer didn't want you to make changes to a document and wanted to send it out with errors in it?
