I recently interviewed for the Associate, Private Equity position at GLG. Overall, the process started off very positively. The team was friendly, professional, and asked thoughtful (albeit fairly basic) questions, which is understandable given it’s a junior-level role. The experience was smooth, and I progressed through all the interview stages without any difficulty, eventually visiting their Barcelona office.
However, the ending was disappointing. After completing the final round, I followed up twice with HR before receiving a vague and non-committal email stating that hiring in Barcelona had been “temporarily paused” due to “exciting projects.” While the message was polite, it provided no clear feedback, no timeline, and no closure—despite the fact that the company had invested in flying me in for the final interview.
If I wasn’t selected, I would have appreciated honest and transparent communication. It’s frustrating to be told that the feedback was great, but then be left in limbo without any explanation or actionable next steps. Candidates deserve clarity and respect for the time and energy they invest in a process, especially when travel is involved.
In short, the people were lovely, but the handling of the final stage left a lot to be desired.
