I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Expedia Group (London, England) in Feb 2016
Interview
After applying online I was invited to a phone interview with an in house recruiter. The questions revolved around my CV, why I applied, how I heard about the position and other similar topics. The call lasted about 25minutes, was relaxed and the recruiter friendly.
Following the call I was informed the next stage involve being sent a technical challenge that I had 72hours to complete. I elected to have it sent a few days later to work around my schedule and Expedia were accomodating in this regard.
The technical challenge allows you to pick between three small applications in a langauge of your choice. Although given 72hours, the challenge only took a few hours and I completed it in an evening (something the recruiter hinted was standard).
Shortly after submitting the challenge I was invited for an onsite interview's the following week. The onsite interview involved two hour long interviews with engineers, back to back. Both involved white board problems.
The first interview covered data structures in which I was asked to implement a LinkedList, some basic HTML/CSS, questions about my choices in the technical challenge and other assorted questions about the projects I'd completed at school and personally.
The second interview was more focussed on HTML and CSS in which we discussed the implementations in my project. Finally I was asked how I would design and create a chess game.
Following the technical interviews I was shown around the offices by two previous placement year interns and given a chance to ask questions about the company, the culture, the work etc. This took about half an hour.
The whole process was rather quick (which I liked) and everyone was friendly. I particularly enjoyed the time with the engineers despite my abysmal interview performance and was impressed by how much Expedia London seems to value their culture/ working enviroment.
