      Software Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Eventbrite in Feb 2016

      Interview

One of the worst interview process I have ever had. It is undeniable that eventbrite is a very young and fast growing company. However, the inconsistence in communication and long process is a huge disappointment. I never had a phone screen or have a chance to talk to a recruiter to ask about the hiring process. I don't even know what is the next steps. Applied online, few weeks later, I got a coding challenge, to make a python app, a chrome extension, or a javascript visual data. I nailed that coding challenge because I have done all of that before. I spent about 4 days trying to make the app as perfect as I can. Sent my submission, 2 months latter, no communication, emailed recruiter, no response, I gave up, then about 2 weeks after I emailed, I received an email to schedule a technical interview. Technical interview really? I sent them my assignment, they know that I can code, they can see my projects in my resume and after 2 months of radio silent they want to do a technical interview. And again, at this point I still don't know about the interview process. Never talk to a recruiter, all I received were automatic email where she sounded like she doesn't even care. Of course I emailed her and ask her about the process, and what should I prepare for the technical interview. She sent me the link to their engineering blog... And yes no mention about hiring process. I still don't even know what is the next step after this technical interview. I feel like I am not respected. I came to the interview frustrated, unprepared. It was a very long process without any information, communication. And guess what, the interviewer sounded like a robot too, he was unprepared, he barely asked me any questions regarding my background, the interview was akward. He was late, so instead of 30 min to code I had 20. I finished 90% of the requirement. And then he wants me to talk about the project that I sent them. It was over 2 months, I tried to explain the overall functionalities, and the funny part is the interviewer didn't seem to care. I was the only one who tried to have a conversation. If you want me to talk about my project, at least give me some questions so I know what you want me to talk about. Oh and that interview is the only chance I got to talk to a person throughout the whole process. The interview said if I pass there will be another interview. 3 weeks later I got an automatic email said I am rejected. Of course I tried to be nice and constructive, I emailed that recruiter and thank her, and ask if she and the team had any feed back so I can improve in the future. No response until now In the end, after 4 months, after I did all the thing for them, wasting my time, keep hoping, I never had a chance to talk to recruiter, to understand the interview process, to know what they are looking for. In conclusion, the interview process is disrespectful. It is a huge disappointment, not because I did not get a job, but because the company that I once had a high opinion about, it's a total joke.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Eventbrite (Barcelona) in Nov 2024

      Interview

The hiring process felt highly impersonal overall. My first interaction was a formal but adequate interview with an HR representative. Following that, I completed a moderately challenging technical assessment on HackerRank, which I successfully passed. However, I had to follow up myself to inquire about the status of my application, as there was no proactive communication. Eventually, the recruiter reached out to ask for my availability for the next two weeks, which I promptly submitted. Surprisingly, I received a notification less than 12 hours before the next round, asking me to be available the following day for a series of interviews lasting approximately 5-6 hours. Given the short notice, I was unable to accommodate this request and had to decline. From that point on, the interaction felt increasingly robotic and rushed. The recruiter continued to send impersonal messages urging me to provide new availability, sign an NDA, and “jump on a quick call” to discuss scheduling. Yet, when I responded, I rarely received any acknowledgment or follow-up, leaving me feeling undervalued as a candidate. Fortunately, I accepted an offer from another company and informed the recruiter. Predictably, I received no acknowledgment or response. While I understand the pressures of today’s competitive job market, every candidate deserves to be treated with respect and fairness. Effort and time invested in an application process should not feel disregarded, and candidates should not be made to feel like commodities in a marketplace. Overall, this was a disappointing and poorly managed experience.
