Round 1: discussion with the US hiring manager. My experience, project challenges, an easy live coding problem.
Round 2: a week later with two US SRE team members. Technical questions in DevOps, started easy, amped up to medium difficulty.
Verbal offer 1: Now the recruiter says they were proceeding with an offer and asked for documents. I had a few questions about flexibility and structure, which they answered. In the same call, HR said they would work on the numbers and get back ASAP since I had other offers.
Red flag 1: Now they wanted to set up a third round of technical interview (emphasizing the "interview") with the Ethos India VP.
Round 3: Conversation around my projects and how I handled different situations.
Verbal offer 2: Two hours later I was told that the feedback was positive. Asked to wait one more day before the offer is rolled out. Promised that the package was going to be "much higher" than the best offer I had.
Conclusion: The next day, recruiter tells me they now wanted to interview more candidates before deciding. I told them I would pass.
Ethos (at least in India) appears to me a confused, unethical and unprofessional company. They don't seem to know what/who they want. Working here would have been very stressful, and I'm glad it ended the way it did.
