I had a negative experience with Engineers Ireland selection process. The first interview, a 30-minute phone call was fine; the interviewer knew what the job involved, asked relevant questions and allowed me to do likewise.
The second interview, however, was a waste of time. It was a 45-minute video call with the interviewer from round one, joined by the person to whom the new recruit would report. The latter came across as starchy, with a series of scripted questions that were either ridiculous, jaded or both. “If you needed help with something, how would you ask for it?”
At precisely 43 minutes into the interview, they asked if I had any questions while making it clear the interview was about to draw to a close. By that stage, I knew this organisation was not for me, so the derisory time allocated for candidate questions wasn’t an issue.
Over a month has passed and I have heard nothing. I can only presume they have ghosted me, which strikes me as totally unprofessional behaviour from a group purporting to represent professionals.
