      Senior Account Manager Interview

      24 Apr 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Engine

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me about this role and thought I would be a good fit. I met with the recruiter for the initial screening call. She said that the next steps in the interview process are creating a presentation (google slides/power point) on a case study prompt and presenting to a team that would last about 45 min total. 20 min for the presentation and 10 min for the team to ask questions and another 15 for me to ask questions. The case study was clear enough for a half a page instruction for a generic prompt on a churn risk on a top client but not being an expert on Hotel Engine, obviously, made creating a custom slide deck to pinpoint the churn reasons and solutions to those concerns challenging for this prompt. I spent a good amount of time on my weekend preparing and building this "deck" while I had time away from my current CSM role during the week. I met with the team for this presentation and was told that I would find out the results in the next few days. I asked if they would be able to provide me with any type of feedback on my presentation or even presentation skills during the end of the presentation interview and they said that they would follow up after they discussed it together. I was told that they would not like to move me forward in the process, which is just fine, but I was sent the generic "no-reply" email. The negative part I had with this process is that I was not able to get feedback as to why they did not want to move me forward or any feedback on how my presentation went or things I could improve. For a normal screening interview or even a hiring manager interview, I feel that a "no-reply" email is fine enough but the level of effort needed to build out a custom deck and then present it to a group with no reason as to the results is just not a good interview experience at all. I can understand going through a presentation interview after you have met the hiring manager and are able to learn more about the role directly vs just learning about the company from the job description and information you can find online. And I also understand this would be hard for the recruiters to give feedback on presentations for every 1st interview they have for a candidate they have for a role. Just felt a little backward to me and needed to be told. My advice to anyone looking to interview with the CSM org here is just to prepare to spend a lot of time on a first interview prepping a presentation with no feedback on the results. In short - a lot of effort for a first interview and no feedback as to the outcome or decision made.

      Question 1

I was asked to build a presentation for an Executive that is thinking of churning and showing the value of Hotel Engine. The presentation would be a total of 45 with questions at the end included

      Interview

The first interview was rescheduled twice and the recruiter was disengaged during the interview. It was rushed and she avoided eye contact while working on something else. I was treated like an annoyance to put up with- why did you invite me to an interview in the first place?

      Interview

The interview process with Hotel Engine is completely backwards. A recruiter will find you on LinkedIn and ask to schedule a call. During the call they can only answer basic questions, as they don't seem to know much about how the actual position runs, I cluing expectations. Shortly after the call, they will send you an email giving you a "case study" to work on for round two. This is a mock presentation you will give to a client that is unsure if they want to continue doing business. You will put a lot of time and effort researching this company and building a visual presentation to share, then another 30 minutes presenting. All of this is done before any kind of interview with a hiring manager. So you will still be unsure if this company and role are a good fit for your needs. Then you will read online employee reviews stating so much about this company is bogus. Kind of like their interview process? And then you'll receive a call stating "Sorry, we are moving on with other candidates, this is a very competitive position". Waste of time for 60k per year sales job
