Application
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Elsevier (Amsterdam) in Nov 2020
Interview
I applied to this position online first in August and then I received an automated rejection email after 3 weeks.
One month later, I received an email from them, saying that someone on their team thinks I may be a great candidate for this same job opening! I applied again and a recruiter invited me for a Skype call, after another 2 weeks.
The call was about 30 minutes where standard first interview questions were asked. The recruiter showed up 10 minutes late.
When we talked about my past experience and achievements, the recruiter kept stressing that how well I did as a female in the technical field. It's a bit strange how her attention was mainly drawn on my gender. I was told that she would talk with the hiring manager on the coming Thursday and decide if they want to continue to the next step.
However, I received another automated rejection on Wednesday morning, which made me doubt that if my application was ever taken seriously or was ever sent to the hiring manager.
The whole process was treated by the recruiter quite unprofessionally. I got the impression that they were not really hiring, which is a waste of candidate's time. Having read the other comments, I can see that ghosting candidates is common at Elsevier.
