I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Eagle Eye Solutions (London, England) in Feb 2022
Interview
I used a recruitment company called Venatrix who do group assessment days. Everyone introduces themselves first and then we do a group activity. I wouldn't recommend them - the Venatrix staff are vultures, they see us all as numbers in their commission and the process itself is quite barbaric and does not represent the job we'd actually be doing which is solo work. Anyways. I was picked from this assessment to have an interview with Eagle Eye. The Eagle Eye management team, specifically the CSO - Al Henderson, were watching this assessment and they pick who they wanted to take forward.
The interview was less than 24 hours after this assessment (so the assessment was Wednesday, interview Thursday). It was a half hour / 45 min conversation.
Before the call, the Venatrix recruiter ironically called me to remind me to be confident and energetic - which I was.
The interview seemed like it went well. Then at the end I asked "is there anything I haven't had the chance to show you that other candidate have". Al responded:
"I can tell that you are a strong woman. You are very sure of yourself. I just wonder how that would play out in the group, if you'd be disruptive".
He then proceeded to backtrack and say "that is not necessarily a bad thing"... right, because being called potentially disruptive is a compliment. Especially as he literally picked me for the interview from a GROUP ASSESSMENT. Also, THIS IS A ROLE IN SALES....... confidence is desired.
I believe his tone and comments were micro-aggressive and and prejudice towards black women. Imagine hiring for a sales role and feeling intimidated by strength and confidence.
To be clear, the conversation we had during the interview was good. It flowed. It was not one-sided nor awkward. Any questions or concerns they had, they asked me and we explored. We discussed casual things like favourite Netflix show, to my achievements in terms of my personal projects which I spoke about with pride, as one should.
Eagle Eye aim to be the 'friendliest company on earth'. Yet they, nor Venatrix did not even have the decency to let me know I did not get the job. They said they'll get back to me the day after, latest Monday. But they literally did not communicate with me again. (this was a final stage interview... who does that?)
Also, in the assessment day, Al showed us a picture of their Company retreat day which was like a staff picture of the majority of their employees. It strikingly lacked ethnic diversity, but I still gave the interview a chance. But having gone through their hiring process, it is now very clear why their company lacks diversity.
Venatrix, who I had been liaising with and had participated in multiple of their degrading assessments for a week now, did not have the decency to let me know I did not get the job - in fact, I have never heard from them again. They went complete ghost too. Absolutely disgusting.
I have a new Job as SDR for a great, respectable company. I just thought it important to share my experience. Applying for jobs is a very vulnerable and taxing process and recruiters and hiring manager need to conduct themselves with more more decency and decorum.
