I applied online. I interviewed at Dogs Trust (Cardiff, Wales) in Mar 2025
Interview
All based on scoring system. A few generic questions, few scenario questions and then a practical of you harnessing a dog. 2 people are interviewing, probably a manager and a supervisor. All scores, you can interview well but if you don't hit marks you won't get the job
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What would you do if you enter the kennel and a dog growls
I’m assessing fit and mindset:
Can you take correction?
Are you calm under pressure?
Do you respect the dog as a living being with limits?
Then there’s discipline and responsibility. I’ll ask about:
Daily care routines (feeding, grooming, health checks)
Record-keeping and following protocols
Willingness to train consistently—even when it’s boring or hard
Dog handlers don’t get “off days” just because they’re tired.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Dogs Trust (London, England) in May 2023
Interview
There were so many warning signs
The person interviewing me didn’t know what the job actually was
The task they sent me was initially for the wrong position.
Then then they sent me a task for the correct role, which was littered with grammar and spelling mistakes.
I made it through that and then was asked - are you sure you want to work here? It’s pure chaos.
The signs were there.
