Applied for a job and it wasn’t a good fit. No big deal. Almost a year later they reached out to me about a different position. I was interested and proceeded to have 4 phone interviews in which we discussed salary, PTO, future plans for that role and beyond. During 3rd interview, I was told they were ready to make an offer and asked if I had any questions or concerns as they didn’t want to bring me on board without making sure we were all in agreement. I shared my request for an adjustment to their proposed compensation and PTO and was told that I would hear back soon as they wanted to get something moving quickly. Then I received a request for a 4th interview and was told they were pumping the brakes a bit and would get back to me in a couple weeks. After their timeline came and went without any word, I followed up and was told they put it on hold for another month to get through the end of the year. I followed up in the middle of January and received no response. Sometime in March, I saw the job they contacted me about was reposted on LinkedIn at a lower salary than they originally told me would be the base salary. I had some uncertainty about the job mainly due to the brief conversations I’d had with the owner the year prior and because this was a brand new role for them. The people I interviewed with were very nice and put me mostly at ease, but the complete lack of response confirmed my hesitations about accepting an offer that I was told was coming my way. It’s one thing to decide to go in a different direction, but they came to me about a job, asked for multiple phone interviews, asked me to fill out a skills assessment, and then ghosted me. Maybe that’s normal to some people, but I find it incredibly unprofessional.
