Implementation Manager State and Local Government Systems Integration Practice Interview

      3 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Deloitte (Austin, TX) in Sept 2015

      Interview

Was contacted within an hour of posting my resume for a different job on the Deloitte Career site and the recruiter thought I would be a good fit with all my past government work. There was a call with the recruiter that day, then a follow up call a few days later which they said was a technical phone interview. The next day I was invited to an on-site interview in the Austin office for the end of the following week. Before the on-site interview I was sent an on-line link to fill out an application, sent information about submitting expenses for the interview and an agenda of the names and positions of the people I would be interviewing with. 3 different people. The day before my on-site interview the recruiter called me to give me information about the people I would be interviewed by and what they would be looking for, the first would be about my ability and past experiences, the second would be technical aspects and the third would be a case study. In the early evening before my morning interview I received an email that the my first interview would be by someone else and that he is high up in the company. The interview was to be 45 minutes with each person with a 15 minute break in-between the first and second and second and third. The first interview was absolutely ridiculous, from the moment he shook my hand, his face changed to an unhappy one, he was obviously reading my resume for the first time and implied that I was not even qualified to be sitting before him and that I how did I get hired at my previous job because I wasn't qualified for that job either. This is the first time in my life that I was intentionally insulted by the interviewer, he asked me if I have any experience in programming (when this has nothing to do with the job I was applying for or was a part of any of my past experience). This man obviously did not like me and asked the craziest questions that had nothing to do with my ability and experiences to do the job I was applying for. I can't figure out if he was just in a bad mood, did not like the places I worked prior or didn't like me because he thinks I'm gay (which I am, but did not disclose). This interview just did not make sense, I've thought about from several different perspectives and still can't figure it out. He got offended because I asked him one thing he liked about working for Deloitte and one thing he would like to see changed. He refused to answer these questions. The interviews with the other two people went well, we got along fine, I was able to answer all their questions, ask them questions and talk about certifications, travel stories and about my past experience. The recruiter followed up later that day and said he had news that I would not like, before he spoke I told him I figured I didn't get the job. The recruiter indicated that one interviewer didn't like me at all, another liked me a lot, and the third was in the middle of the other two.
