I recently interviewed for a position with the Director of Marketing Operations at Commerce and was disappointed by how unprepared the hiring manager was. From the moment we got on the call, it was clear he didn’t have any structured questions or behavioral topics prepared. Instead of guiding the conversation, he seemed to rely on me to fill the silence and guess what he wanted to hear. This lack of direction made it obvious that he wasn’t prepared to conduct a professional interview. Despite me doing my best to address what I thought he might want to know, he never asked any specific questions to dig deeper. A few days later, I received a generic rejection email. When I followed up to ask for feedback, I was told I wasn’t “specific enough” in my answers. Ironically, the manager never asked any specific questions to begin with. Overall, it was a frustrating and unprofessional experience. If this is how they run interviews, I’d be wary of how they manage their team. I’d recommend candidates approach with caution.
