Standard interview - nothing too difficult nor easy, right in the middle. Long process though - takes quite a long time to hear back from them, which is understandable given it's a job in sports.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard interview things plus a few extra 'fun' questions to get to know your personality.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Columbia Fireflies (Columbia, SC) in Dec 2020
Interview
Interview was a 4-step process. Applied online and received an email for a phone interview with potential boss.
1. Did a phone interview that lasted 30 minutes.
2. Came into the building to meet director and do some role playing sales exercises.
3. Met with a panel of senior staff around the building to interview about collaboration between departments.
4. Finally met with potential boss and Chief Revenue Officer to interview and do more sales role playing.
Totaled about 4-4.5 hours and 3 separate in person meetings.
Being a polite candidate, I did not ask about salary. They claim to be "thorough" to find the best people to work in their great work culture. It was also mentioned that during peak season (April - September) that its not uncommon to work 60-80 hours to help with the home games. I needed to be ready for that.
In the end, they offered me a starting salary that didn't even come close to where the market is at. Their commission structure is very weak, offering little to nothing. You can make more money working at Target or Chick-fil-a, and work 40 hours.
I took time off of work to interview just to hear a very low ball offer. They should have posted the salary range in the job description.
Multiple phone calls with the hiring manager and senior staff. In person interview with hiring manager and c-level executives. Fun and engaging senior staff. Communication was timely and they worked with my schedule to set meeting times.
