My interview experience with Cart.com went mostly well. The total time from recruiter reaching out to the end of the experience was about a month and a half or so. It started off with a phone call from the recruiter, an informal technical screening with one of the engineering managers, a take-home coding exercise which was refreshing, an interview with another engineering manger diving a little deeper into technical expertise (non-whiteboarding), followed by 2 more interview with non-technical leaders. Every interview I had was awesome and went really well for both sides, however, my interview process hit a snag unfortunately. At the first call with the recruiter, we vaguely discussed salary expectations on both ends without giving an exact number, although I was given a pay range. About a week after my last interview, I received a phone call from the recruiter after sending a follow-up email confirming that I previously said x amount for salary. I obliged to the amount as I didn't want to pass up the opportunity but it was then deemed too much. After another conversation with the recruiter I mentioned that I hadn't given an exact number, but she assured me I had. I then changed my salary expectation to be well within the aforementioned range but I think the leadership was scared off. In short I feel as though I may have been robbed of a great opportunity and likewise the company was robbed of a great dev due to miscommunication. Overall aside from that a great experience and would interview again given the opportunity.
