I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ByteDance (Seoul) in Jan 2019
Interview
DO NOT APPLY to Bytedance Korea office's Content Management Specialist position unless you just want to practice your interview skill.
First of all, either they are really picky with who they hire or they are not planning to hire someone at all. My guess is they just want free opinion research on their market in Korea.
Here are some of bad experience I had while applying to Bytedance
1. The HR call you like 7:00pm ish or plus - there was time they called me on Sunday evening
2. On my second interview with them on video call, the interviewer didn't turn on her camera while mine was on. I found it quite rude actually.
3. THEY DO NOT CONTACT YOU BACK if you did not get the offer. On my last interview, I was told I could wait like 2 weeks maybe because HR is busy. I waited almost 20 days then wrote e-mail in reply to interview info e-mail I got + cc e-mail. No answer. I tried 2 emails on Bytedance global recruit website. No answer. I made an international call to HR team. Finally got no offer e-mail almost instantly I hanged up.
4. I'm not the only person who experienced this. I was asking my friend if all Chinese companies take so long to announce result, and her reply was, "by any chance... is that Bytedance?" I guess this happened to many people.
They have been posting this position on LinkedIn since like last year. Till now they are posting the same position on LinkedIn without even closing the previous one. (They also have another account in Korean I saw)
My guess on why they are not hiring is because -
1. They are seeking for people with degree from world famous university - the interviewer did say that their team is full with those kind of people
2. They are just doing free opinion research - ask around on how to improve their current problem in Korean market
3. They want male applicant, because shift time is different for female and male.
Well this is just a guess from failed applicant, so don't take it seriously. This is just how I will advise you if you are my friend and want to apply to Bytedance Korea.

Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ByteDance in Jul 2021
Interview
I was contacted by a recruiter who seemed to work with Bytedance HR. During my initial webex with the recruiter, I had informed that I had little experience with the disruptive tech that was the focus of the job as my background was more traditional. At that first meeting I was assured that this was not an issue as Bytedance was looking at transferrable skills.
I passed a subsequent online test and had a webex with a very disinterested Bytedance employee and guess what, the entire interview focused on my experience of that disruptive technology. I had done research and tried out as much as I could in the week or so since the first interview, but was informed later that night that I would not progress further.
If your criteria is A and the candidate has already told you in the first interview that that is not something they have, then why make the person jump through additional hoops? Either the communication between HR and the hiring department is very bad or Bytedance are fulfilling an internal or country quota aka they already had a candidate in mind (which can be the case for other companies but they are seldom this obvious about it). In either case, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
The only major plus point was that everything was v quick including the rejection, so I was at least not left hanging for weeks.
