      Senior Staff Software Engineer Interview

      21 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Brocade (Bengaluru) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I had never had a pathetic & unforgettable interview experience as I had with Brocade. First they called me for interview in a particular team. I requested the HR to arrange a phone interview with hiring manager, so that I can explain my profile to them and explore a fit , before spending time for an in-person interview. Instead of the hiring manager, they made an engineer to speak with me. I explained him about my work experience, what skills I have and don't have, and requested him to convey the same to the hiring manager. But apparently the message never reached the manager. They called me for a face-to-face and then found I have a different profile than what they needed and sent me back home. I wasted a day on that. In the following week, another HR called me for an interview with another team. I told the HR about what happened in the first case and requested to call me for a face-2-face only if they are sure about going ahead. What was strange was the HR and the hiring manager were keen to know if I had another offer in my hand , whether I was committed to join them if offered etc. All these, before even they interviewed me..The HR told me that people from my current company take the offer and do not join them finally. I told them clearly that though I did not have any offer in hand that time I cannot say where I would join finally. Then they agreed it is logical and called me for a face-2-face. The interview panel were nice people and the technical part of it was very good. The hiring manager seemed to be indecisive and insecure..the manager again took up the "any other offer ?" topic again at the end of the interview. I was really irritated as why such an established company is so insecure about people joining them. When I asked about the projects I can look forward to work, the manager went on the defensive saying people from my current company generally do not have necessary expertise, but expect great work. As he was politely saying these, I did not react to the comments and returned after a long day interview which I was confident went well. After 2 days, the HR called me and asked me to share my pay slips urgently. I sent them the same and following that the HR again called and asked about my salary expectations. I gave a reasonable figure and also indicated that I am open to negotiation. The HR said they will get back on that. Then for more than a week, there was no response from their side. Since it has gone to the salary negotiation stage, I was very hopeful that they might be working on an offer or at least would have the courtesy to let me know if things are not going to be taken forward. But to my frustration there was complete silence from their side, even after I sent a mail requesting the current status of the process. Then I waited for few more days and again sent a reminder to them saying I hope I deserve some response ( since I have put some efforts and time on this and reached the final stage ). This time they slowly came out of the hiding and replied that the team did not select me ! I really do not understand why the HR would collect my salary documents if their team had not selected me...Or if the salary parity was the issue, why did they not discuss with me. Or why did not they check my salary first and then decide whether to call me for a whole day interview ? Also should a candidate wait in dark without any information that he has been dropped ? Is there no basic courtesy to inform a candidate that he can move on without hoping and waiting ? I have come to the conclusion that this company has a bunch of confused or indecisive managers and completely unprofessional & opportunistic HR team..
