      User Experience Research Interview

      30 Jan 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bose (Boston, MA)

      Interview

Straightforward hiring process but awful experience during the onsite interview. It started off with a portfolio presentation to a team of about 10 people. During the presentation, I could hear giggling and whispering among team members and I was constantly interrupted with irrelevant questions that did not concern the topic of the presentation (even though the recruiter had informed me that a separate Q&A session would take place after the presentation). Some team members gave feedback that wasn’t helpful at all and even said they are “not a fan” of graduates from certain schools (one that I was part of). Eventually, they said they’re looking for more experienced candidates with a PhD. That was very surprising because the job description clearly stated that candidates with 2+ years (my experience level) and a masters (a degree I hold) are ideal for this position. I don’t think the team knows what they want and it was an absolute waste of my time.

      User Experience Researcher Interview

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Bose in Nov 2021

      Interview

The process took 5 weeks total, I applied via a Linkedin job posting. I had 3 rounds- recruiter screening, hiring manager interview, and portfolio review/virtual on-site. After having been on the job market for 3 months, I was pleasantly surprised by the Bose process. From the beginning, my recruiter was responsive, transparent, and respectful of my time as a candidate. Everyone I spoke to at the company through the different rounds took the time to engage with my work, background, and qualifications. The interviews were less like rapid fires and more conversational in nature with some behavioral and skill based questions. There was plenty of time and room for my questions in every conversation. The decision making was quick and I happily accepted the offer when it was extended.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Bose in May 2017

      Interview

The recruiter contacted me one month after I submitted the application. She asked me 5 questions and scheduled me for the interview with a manager. This is a screening phone interview so it was less than 30 minutes long. She was very friendly.
