      Customer Service Representative Interview

      24 Sept 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Barcelona
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Booking.com (Barcelona) in Apr 2019

      Interview

My interview took place about 6 months ago (April 2019). I found the offer on Linkedin, did the test on the webpage, and waited about 3 days to receive the answer. Firstly, I was interviewed by the phone call and during this interview, I was invited for an assessment day at Booking.com office. Assessment day (company presentation, details about the job - what you will do and what you can expect, English test, etc.) was connected with another interview with other 2 Recruiters - one person who is speaking in your language you're applying for and I think the other one was a Team Leader. I had a fake phone call and I was obliged to manage the situation when there's a hotel under renovation and the customer is really mad about it. After all, Recruiter asked me one question in my language (to check that if I'm speaking well) - and that was all. In the next few days, I received a phone call from the Recruiter with information that I'm accepted - YOU DID IT, WOAH! - but ... and now please, read carefully what I'm about to say right now ... THEY told me that they actually don't have any free vacancies right now for candidates who are speaking in my language (wtf, so why they did an interview with me ?!). And they promised me that if they have any free vacancies they will call me right away, and advised to check job offers that they're posting from time to time (it means that now is the time that I should expect information about when I ' m definitely gonna start working). They did not know when will be approximate time to finally start work - they said: "Oh, we don't know exactly, we will let you know ... It can be in May, June or even in September!". OK, I said there is not a problem for me, but now we have the end of September and I've not received any answer and I haven't seen any job offer related to this I was applied for. Guess what more ... when you're new in Barcelona your chances of getting this job (yeah, even in Booking.com) are very poor because you need to gain NIE, SSN, and empadronamiento - without getting a work promise is quite impossible. But I did it with my friend's help, only because of that I want to work at Booking.com - they are not interested in candidates who don't have necessary documents like the ones I wrote about above. They didn't give me any work promise on a document, "you have to wait" - It was the only thing what I heard from them. And you know what? I'm really disappointed. And I am very sorry about this kind of recruitment process. I hoped for serious and future-oriented job at Booking.com. Wish you all the best and much more of luck future candidates!

The process was lengthy and competitive. They ensure that you know what you are going into by sharing experiences. A great way to interview and set up potential employees for the future.

      Interview

The selection process started with an assessment which is supposed to give a chance to show your practical skills in this particular role. The idea is great but the assessment itself was confusing, there was not enough time to answer all the questions properly and many questions were not even that relevant to the role. If you manage to pass, you move to the interview stage which is the interview with a recruiter. I had a pretty relaxed interview with a lovely recruiter who said I left a positive impression and she will present my candidature to the next stage (which is an interview with the manager). However, at the end of the same day I received a message that they will not be moving forward with my application with no further feedback. A couple of weeks later I saw the role being reposted again.

      Question 1

Mostly just asking about my career path and how my past experiences could be relevant to this role.
