I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Block (Saint Louis, MO) in Oct 2015
Interview
The interview process was the same as the other customer services interview reviews which included written sample then phone interview. I was told to come to a group interview on Oct. 13th and when I arrived I saw a group of people (20 including me) sitting around in a conference room. I was asked to sit in the conference room with the others and wait. We were put in a group of 4 then ushered to a room were 1 (total of 4) interviewer at a time came in/out and asked us to answer a question but before the question to state our name. Each interviewer question was not hard and I felt our answers did not matter. Each interviewer typed our “answers” as we told of our experiences. They did advise us that they would be typing notes as we spoke. After the interview we were taking to another room to wait while the interviewers went to another room to compare notes. All of us were professionals with different back grounds in customer service. I’ve been in customer service industry for over 25 years and there has not been a position in customer services I have applied for where I was not offered the position. When the interviewers came back in the room, we had a question and answer session. The group interview process took almost 3 hours. I felt later this group interview was not more on experience but on if we meet the “age”. They told us, the selected, will receive a call but I was not called. The group of professionals included an age group of 20s, 30s and 40s. While leaving we heard an interviewer ask the two in their twenties to stay, saying, “We have questions regarding your resume” but we knew. Part of my denial email included the statement, “the team decided to move forward with other candidates they felt were a better fit at this time” which is fine. If this company is hiring by age, remember, what comes around goes around, but it was a nice and different experience!

Question 1
Give me an example of you in a tough situation and how did you handle it?
The entire interview process took about 3 weeks. First there was a writing sample they ask for which is very easy. The next step was a phone mock call. I was pretty nervous because I wasn’t sure how the role playing would go but the rep was super friendly and fed me the info before hand & I just navigated through the call showing my customer service skills. It wasn’t really about getting the info right but more so how can u resolve an issue effectively. The last step was in on site interview that lasted about an hour. I met w/ 2 hiring “team leads” for 30min each. The first hiring manager was pretty laid back & did ask basic interview questions but it was more conversational. The 2nd was a little more direct (reading through a list of questions) and his questions were longer/more complex. Overall my experience was great everyone was superb friendly & the office is so awesome!

Interview
I quickly received a response to my application and followed up with a simple writing sample. I had a phone interview a couple of days later that included a mock phone call, followed by an in person interview about a week later. The in person interview was at the same time as several other interviews. I interviewed with two managers that asked standard interview questions. I thought it went well with the first manager but couldn't get a read from the second. I received a rejection email about a week after the interview but was not given any feedback.
Thanks for taking the time to apply and interview! Hopefully, you'll give us another try in the future. Thanks! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to glassdoor@squareup.com.
