I applied for a Marketing role at BBC Maestro. During the application process, there were several red flags with this company:
Firstly, a ‘qualifying’ question was included in the application that seemed to be sourcing for free ideas on how to ‘help raise the bar at BBC Maestro - both the quality of work and company culture?’ which is relatively challenging to answer as an external candidate.
Secondly, on the job description, I initially appreciated the salary transparency by listing the salary bands for this role, which went up to £110k (L4: £50-65k, L5: £60-80k, L6: £75-110k). I was invited to a first-round interview with the ‘recruiter’ three weeks after my application and spoke to someone in the wider platform team. The conversation was pleasant and provided good insights into the BBC Maestro business and priorities. However, what was most insightful was that the salary range for the role was inconsistent with what was advertised and only went up to £80k at best. This was generally disappointing from a company under the BBC brand. I wish the team all the best and would advise them to assess their salary transparency and banding for future roles.
