I applied online and within a week I received an invite for a 30 minute call with Matt about my experience, work and interest in B12. The call was very pleasant and Matt had some great questions, it was clear to me that he wasn't just going through the motions - he had a real interest in me and my work. Afterwards I spoke with Ryan, a Sr. Product Designer and walked him through a project in my portfolio. He was really great to talk to and was able to answer some important questions I had about the team and product. From there I received a very short assignment (probably my favorite of any assignment I'd received) and a lot of flexibility in time to complete it. After completing I came on-site a few days later for a series of 30min 1:1 interviews and a 1hr white-board exercise. Everyone was brilliant and I felt instantly welcomed and engaged throughout the entire time. The team is incredible and though ultimately the stars didn't align this time, I wouldn't hesitate to reach out in the future and would recommend anyone who wants to work with smart and kind people to apply.

The interview process was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I had a chat with the CEO over the phone who rapid fired questions and made the interact felt more like a interrogation than it did a friendly interview. Not what I expected from a CEO/Angel Investor. I applied for the product designer role and was excited to learn more, especially with my experience working for one of the fastest growing website builders. However, the term 'bait and switch' is exactly how I describe the interview. The CEO kept asking me if I'd rather give up the designer position for the developer support role. I told him no, I'm calling to talk about the designer role. Throughout our conversation, he kept interjecting that he wants me to take the developer support role instead. After telling him no multiple times, his behavior turned aggressive and he tried to belittle my experience as a designer. I believe that a CEO should lead by example, especially when trying to grow a team built on the foundation of empathy and fun startup culture. My advice is to stay away from this toxicity.. I can't even image what it would be like interacting with the CEO on a daily basis.
