There are 5 steps of the interview (takes some time). I only went through 2 steps. First, the HR will talk to you. Then, there is a coding interview 4 questions/6 hours.
I applied online. I interviewed at Aeolus Robotics in Jul 2022
Interview
I applied for "Robotics Software and Integration Engineer" at first since I plan to apply for an entry-level first as a fresh graduate. During the first interview with HR, HR told me the company has another position, "Intermediate Software Engineer", and ask me if I am interested to apply. I said I am okay with that after viewing the job description that HR sent me. I could try it. Therefore, following my second interview is a Technical Interview for the "Intermediate Software Engineer" position.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I spent almost 1-hour answering the Technical Interviewer's questions on the introduction of myself, my dissertation, what skills I used in the dissertation, asking mechanical design problems that he was interested in my dissertation, and why I left my previous job. During 1 hour technical interview, he does not really ask me software questions. Most time he asked me about mechanical design questions. I non-stop answer his questions and almost lose my voice. I even do not have time to ask him relevant technical questions, but 1 hour is almost running out. It seems that the technical interviewer tries to learn from candidates but candidates do not have a chance to ask technical questions. After the interview, I got a rejection letter within the same day, saying my skills are not at the level that they require.
I applied for a software engineer position. I assumed that they will ask me Python, Git version control, or ROS questions. But the technical Interviewer asked me mechanical questions. Then sent an email telling me that my skills are not at the level that they require.
It does not make sense. Do they try to find someone to practice?! This totally wastes candidates' time. Since as candidates, we all spend time and do our best to prepare for interviews. Anyway, this is a super "interesting" company; be aware and careful.
Dear candidate,
thank you for your feedback. We are continuously working on improving our recruitment process for it to be more efficient and shorter. We will pass your case to the senior management in our organization to avoid such situations in the future.
Best regards,
I applied online. I interviewed at Aeolus Robotics in Feb 2021
Interview
1. Codility remote test with multiple problems (You have plenty of time to complete it: 6 hours);
2. Interview with the HR
3. Codility online interview with 2 employees.
The interview process was too long. Every step took 1-2 weeks.
The questions were generic and not difficult, so it wasn't clear to me what they were looking for. It was also strange that during the technical interview they didn't ask me about my experience, as if they were just looking for a random coder.
The interviewers were ok, but they don't look organized and it seems they don't care about the experience and specific skills of the candidates. This for me was a red flag since I was expecting a robotic company to have a R&D flavor.
For all these reasons, I hadn't a good impression of the company.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard coding questions.
General questions about C++ (shared pointers, containers)
General questions about ROS (topics, services, actions)
Dear candidate,
thank you for your feedback. We are continuously working on improving our recruitment process for it to be more efficient and shorter. Sorry to hear that you had bad experience with the interviewers. We will address that , as we have the R&D vibe, that you rightly pointed out should be, felt by our candidates.
