The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AT&T in Jul 2011
Interview
I applied online with a resume attached. Almost immediately I got an email saying that they needed more information from me which had a link to a personality test which was very easy.
After a few days I got a call from a rep telling me about the position and then she asked me two questions about times that I have dealt with customers, which caught me a little off guard, but at the end she took a moment to "finish up her notes" and then told me she would like to invite me to an interview happening 8 days later.
I went to the store that was holding mass interviews. The employees there were friendly and I sat with a few other potentials for a few minutes while they waited for more people to show up- I really thought it was going to be a group interview but then a group of area managers and hiring managers came out and took us off to private rooms.
My interview lasted about an hour, it was with one of the area managers and he explained to me that there were only two full-time positions available and about 34 part-time. He went over the usual situation based but slightly difficult questions, mostly starting with "Tell me about a time you..." One of the odd ones was telling him about a time where I used humor to overcome an objection.
Afterwards he told me that the normal progression from that interview was another one at my potential store to see what that manager would think of me, and that I would hear from them in the next two days (which brought it up to Friday). He also seemed to stress that part-time might be more of an option even though I applied for full-time.
I felt as though I had done a really great job with the interview, but Friday came with no call. I figured that I would give them until Tues and then maybe call the hiring contact to thank her for the opportunity, but early Monday morning they called to give me a verbal offer for one of the full-time positions.
I had to do a VERY thorough application for a background check and go to do a drug test, but I thought it was really great that they called me relatively quickly and that it went straight to the verbal offer.
As a sidenote, I went in dressed very professionally- dress shirt, jacket, the whole nine yards- and looked incredibly overdressed sitting with the other interviewees. Since I have been on the hiring side of things before, I always make sure to look very tailored, and it worked out thank goodness.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Tell me about a time where you handled a situation in a certain way, and now looking back would have handled it differently.
It is a basic customer service and teamwork questions. Asks you to teach them how to do something you're passionate about. Nothing crazy or unexpected. Laid back but professional, answered all my questions as well.

Interview
Interview itself is pretty easy. The two times I've interviewed with them as varied based on the manager, but they're pretty forthright with everything they're telling you and the expectations of the job.
After the initial interview, the store will likely assess your product knowledge. They may ask you about various cell phone models, features, or accessories, and how you would explain them to customers. This is to evaluate your ability to understand and communicate technical information.
