      Mechanical Engineer Interview

      12 Jul 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Wilton, CT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ASML (Wilton, CT) in Jun 2023

      Interview

Phone screen, two technical interviews. Lots of things that were rough in the process, and I think they are eliminating good candidates with their process. 1)The recruiters work through a randomly generated email system so each reply comes from a different address. Not a dealbreaker but it doesn't seem professional. 2) First screening call is a lot of "can you spell your first and last name again for me" "why did you apply" "why are you leaving your current job, 30 seconds max" and this should really just be part of the application. 3) First technical interview was ok, interviewer was not fluent in english (for a US position) but ASML is international so maybe that's part of the plan. 4) Second technical interview was a time. Interviewer never turned his camera on. Stated "I don't like normal interview questions so I make my own and do my own thing" but then proceeded to come up with unrealistic scenarios, make wild claims about processes that I have used as an engineer, and would not listen. Finally realized 80% of the way through the interview that he wanted basic textbook answers even though these do not work in the real world and the last 20% was ok but not great when I started giving these instead of the real world solutions. I did my best but we did not get along, did not get moved along past this interview

      Interview

This review is regarding the ASML interview I attended in Wilton, Connecticut. This was the worst interview experience I have ever had in my life. I had to wait one hour outside the reception hall before anyone called me. Then someone finally came and called me in, but they didn’t even know which position I was being interviewed for. I had traveled all the way from the Midwest to Connecticut for this interview. They had no idea what position I had been invited for in an in-person interview. They didn’t know what to do next. I ended up speaking with some random people, and the whole process felt completely disorganized. At one point they even took me to the clean room and said this is the kind of work you would be doing, but there was no structured interview or proper discussion. After that, there was no communication for several weeks, and then one day I simply received a message saying they were not moving forward with the process. Overall, the experience felt very disrespectful. It showed a complete lack of preparation and professionalism. It seemed like they did not know what they were doing, and the entire process came across as extremely impolite and unprofessional.

      Interview

De sollicitatieprocedure begon met een online sollicitatieformulier, gevolgd door een telefonische screening. Daarna volgde een sollicitatiegesprek op locatie. Tot slot kreeg ik na enkele dagen bericht over de uitkomst van de procedure.

Phone screen at first, then one teams interview and one on-site interview. I had an overall positive experience for both of these interviews, the people who interviewed me were professional and asked mostly about the thought process of my past projects.
