How are the career development opportunities at Sunrun?

      Pure Chaos

      Manager
      Former employee
      Lehi, UT
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Coworkers are generally collaborative and helpful. FTO for salaried employees.

      Cons

Constantly shifting objectives that change without warning—often mid-project—causing confusion, wasted effort, and frustration across teams. Siloed departments with little to no cross-functional communication, resulting in duplicated work, missed opportunities, disjointed strategies and very upset customers. Senior management that is condescending, dismissive, and out of touch, often disregarding frontline feedback and fostering a toxic "top-down" culture. Lack of clear direction or strategic alignment, leaving teams unsure of priorities or long-term goals. High employee turnover and low morale, driven by lack of recognition, growth opportunities, and trust in leadership. Reactive decision-making instead of proactive planning, creating a constant “firefighting” environment rather than sustainable progress.

      Great Company, Poor Pay

      Pros

Sunrun is an awesome company to work for and the benefits are great. The leadership team will keep you engaged even if you're in a remote position. They have so many resources to support you such as employee communities (women, LGBTQ+, Veterans, BLM, LatinX, & disability), education programs (MBAs, GED, undergrad, and more), 401K match, and employee stock program. The company also wants their employees to be successful in their roles, they have frequent training, support docs, and team leaders to keep you on track. I would recommend working here if you are interested, especially new grads. It is a great learning and growth opportunity for your career.

      Cons

The pay is awful, they only give raises once a year, and it's a maximum of 5% if you're the top performer. They took away overtime for hourly employees. The most common reason people have left this company is because of pay. Many employees have multiple jobs to support themselves.

      Pros

Great culture and benefits. The company is really working on improving and keeping up with the ever-changing renewable energy policies and current high interest rates.

      Cons

Promotions seem to go to who gets along best with upper management, not always who is best or more qualified for the job. However, Sunrun does provide a lot of career development opportunities.

      Pros

Weekends off Strict 8-hour workday Work-life balance

      Cons

Micromanaging from the department head, many times skipping over the team supervisor to reprimand employees. Apparent favoritism from the department leaders and directors. Multiple layoffs occur every year, and many people are laid off to keep their favorites, even when they are not good employees. Department leaders and Directors often retaliate when issues are brought to their attention. Unorganized training departments often train people for other roles and then assign them jobs they have not been trained in. The company often finds ways to get out of the terms and conditions that if a home is damaged by the product, the damage will be fixed. Sunrun often tried to argue that the damage was not a result of the product or installation, even with documented evidence. We are often told of career opportunities, but promotion applications are automatically rejected with no feedback or just told that they are not hiring internally.

      Pros

Sunrun’s focus on clean, renewable energy gives employees a sense of purpose and the opportunity to make a positive environmental impact. There are multiple career paths in sales, operations, and corporate roles. Motivated employees can advance quickly, especially in sales. Sales reps have the potential to earn high commissions, especially in high-performing regions or teams.

      Cons

The door-to-door or lead generation roles can be demanding, and not everyone thrives in the high-pressure, performance-driven environment. Compensation can be inconsistent based on territory
