Pros

Extra pressured life, no visibility of product

Cons

Not a place for a senior engineer. You must be available all the time as cxo's are on some other Timezone and must reply to their chats on slack groups or someone else will reply and you will be counted as non-responsible. The team need labors as lots of projects without any time. And as in engineers keep leaving, you must hop from project to project, no matter of your years of exp, you have to do the same work as fresher too. You will be compared from the engineer who got burnt out of the work and left the company. Most of the senior engineer leaves in a year or so. Promotion will be based on your hard work and time given> 10 hours A 3-4 year exp will also be a staff engineer/tech lead and 9+ will also be at the same level. - No perks at all - No work life balance - Not an employee friendly company (always think to save money first) - You have to be indispensable, or you wont get promotion and appraisal - Will be given 13 inch mac with 8gb ram only and you must survive.

Pros

Good problems to solve Decent pay

Cons

They force you to come to office Lot of people had covid, still asking everyone to attend office physically. They do research on covid, bit don't care if their employees die Senior management don't take responsibility for their failures. Some do not have any qualification to be at their position Projects keep getting dropped at the drop of a hat. Still, no one in upper management is held responsible. They don't plan because they are themselves clueless Very opaque org. The CEO and CSO have set up a mediaeval society like structure. They don't have all hands, no townhalls where employees can speak. It's like their feifdom, they never hold company wide meetings, no updates on funding, projects, attrition, etc to ordinary people, only the lords, archbishops, Duke's, earls chosen by them and their friends get to see them and hear to them Lot of favoritism, no merit Projects are done secretively. No one comes to know what is happening in other teams. Org works in silos Overall inefficient.

Pros

There are many weeks where you work around 5-10 hours doing easy and boring pandas work (chatGPT does it nowadays) and copy pasting results into gsheet. They give you a week to complete a task that takes literally 3 hours of focused work. No camera on zoom calls. Basically, travel where you want, no questions asked.

Cons

The pros listed above are actually cons when you realize they hurt your career more than you think so. It also affects the company's success which explains the reason why they are running towards bankruptcy and pretty much laid off every other US-based data scientist. Why? Labor is cheaper in India and one person over there can do the job of 3 US-based data scientists. No promotion over 4 years because the company was not performing at its expected capacity but they never tell you what are the expectations. There is literally no future as a data scientist, you are just dealing with big pharma companies telling you how to extract the data and what to look for. If they don't like the numbers you pull, they change the rules on how to extract the data and you just need to redo the whole analysis. This is the "science-first" company ladies and gentlemen.
