Friendly but frustrating

Pros

Convenient being able to work from home and an enjoyable why to use your ESOL tutoring skills. Little preparation needed and the students are on the whole nice. If you are new to online teaching give it a go just for the time management and technical skills needed

Cons

Low pay per lesson and filling in the student feedback form s part of the requirement to be paid are two negatives. If the session had the maximum of six students writing a useful line of feedback can be time consuming. When things go wrong either technically or through lack of communication it is time consuming to get back on track.

Pros

My pros outweigh my cons, however, I need to further explain my cons. Payment: always on time Messaging staff: excellent Lesson plans: fine – and room to add your own material Session cancellation: very flexible

Cons

1. Salary doesn`t correspond with international standards. I`m making half the minimum wage of my country but I enjoy the job, hence I continue working here. Suggestion: Perhaps consultants could be offered an extra bonus for doing a certain amount of lessons per week. (20 or 25 lessons?) 2. Lesson plans are offered well in advance so we have preparation time – which I need as I offer extra material to students for further practice. However, these lessons occasionally change as little as 10 minutes before the lesson, thus giving us no time to re-prepare them. 3. We all have different level skills, especially teaching either juniors or adults. It would be beneficial to both students and consultants if we were allowed to choose between 2 categories: Teaching Juniors or Teaching Adults. This would allow us to excel in teaching the appropriate group. I realise that teaching juniors earns you more money but I personally prefer teaching adults – less pay – more satisfaction. All in all, I enjoy working with TutorABC.

Pros

Flexible hours. Lessons arranged. Stable platform.

Cons

This used to be an amazing company to work for. They recently changed the contract and pay structure and I’m now earning USD400 less per month. I pleaded with them and submitted a copious amount of proof of my dedication but to no avail. I think loyalty matters.
